6 coffee shops you MUST go to in Barcelona

Nate and I recently spent 4 days in Barcelona, and our days revolved around searching for the best flat white and V60. Life and vacation is too short to spend it drinking bad coffee, and so we have compiled a brief list of our favourite coffee shops & why;

1. Espai Joliu, 9.5/10

Our number one favourite was Espai Joliu. We rank it as this because of taste, aesthetic, service and price. It is located in the north eastern part of Barcelona, at around a 30 minute walk from the center, which is why it ranks as 9.5 not 10 because it's a bit out the way. (However this can also be a bonus as it gets ya out the main part of the city to see something else!) The inside is covered in plants and macrame and hanging lights. It's so cosy and there is a fair bit of seating inside.

Nate got a V60 (€3) and I got a flat white (€2.40) and it was hands down the best coffee we had here. The cafe also doubles up as a plant store which is always a great thing.

Location: Carrer de Badajoz, 95, 08005 Barcelona, Spain. Open Mon-Sat

2. Nomad Coffee 8/10

Nomad Coffee was another one of Nate and I's favourite cafes. There are 3 through out the city, one of them is right next to Espai Jouli in the eastern part of the city. The most 'iconic' Nomad is in the city centre and is open mon-fri, then there is another one further out thats open every day. We went to Nomad twice for a coffee and were really impressed; the barista was helpful in directing us to which beans are best with milk etc. Here a flat white/americano will cost ya €3 and a V60 is €5/1 person which is why we bring the score to 8/10. There isn't much seating in Nomad so it's potentially more of a take-away place.

This Nomad is located at Carrer de Joaquín Costa, 26, 08001 Barcelona and is open every day

This is the Coffee Lab & Shop: Passatge Sert, 12, 08003 Barcelona. Open mon-fri

The Roasters Home: Carrer de Pujades, 95, 08005 Barcelona. Open mon-fri

Make sure to Hit up Nomad in your travels through Barcelona to get learnt on coffee & give you the energy needed to walk all over this beautiful city

3. Skye Coffee co. 7.5/10

Nate and I were so excited to try Skye Coffee and it did not disappoint! The Coffee tasted so good, was pretty cheap (FW €2.4 & aeropress €3). Skye is also located around the corner from Espai Joliu so we would recommend doing a lil coffee tour since you'll be in the area! This place is located in a huge warehouse and the coffee is made from a beautiful, decked out van. We had major van envy

The location is so cool, there are various tables to work at and it would probably be a shared space. We concluded we probably wouldn't go there to hang out on the regular since it's very industrial, but we would def get all our to-go coffee from here

Location: Carrer de Pamplona, Barcelona, Spain

Open mon-fri

Pros: very niche, decent priced coffee, tastes yummy, large space

Cons: granted I ordered an aeropress (eyeroll @ me), it took a while for our order to come through as there was just one barista and quite a few customers

4. Onna Cafe 7/10

We are giving Onna the grand 4th place, simply because it was good coffee, in a central location but off the beaten track.. We shared a v60 for 2 people and it was €5.75 which is a decent price compared to Nomad. The Barista spoke through each of the beans with Nate and then gave us this lil card to have some what of an idea about it !

Location: Onna Cafè, Carrer de Santa Teresa, Barcelona, Spain. Open every day

5. Satan's Coffee Corner 6.5/10

Ahh yes, Satan's coffee corner. Located right in the heart of the gothic quarter, which probably says it all. We both had a Flat White which was €3 each which is pretty standard, however an espresso is also €3 so that doesn't make sense. When we arrived mid afternoon the cafe was packed and you could only order to-go; it took probably 30 mins for us to order and get our coffee so thats kinda whyyyy the score is so low. And then it started to rain (woo, sunny spain) and so here's my token pic:

We later learned that day as we walked past that there's another cafe across town which seemed a lot bigger and nicer and we would recommend to go THERE if you want to experience this coffee... That location is Satan's Coffee Co., Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Barcelona, Spain. Open Everyday

This location in the gothic quarter is Satan's Coffee Corner, Carrer de l'Arc de Sant Ramon del Call, Barcelona, Spain. Open Everyday

6. Black Remedy 5/10

So this cafe shouldn't really make it on the list but it will anyway just because we went there. I think it's known for pretty good coffee, and it was, but just the experience wasn't fab. A flat white was €3.30 which is the highest we saw it, and it wasn't as good as the other ones we had. Nate got a lil baby cortado for €2.3. We also got brunch here for €7 each and the portion/price ratio didn't match up (slash we're probably just cheap lol). A pro for this place is that there is plenty of seating, it's very central and if you're not too fussed about money then we would recommend it! I think they're more known for their sandwiches than brunch which were between €7-10 and so maybe that would be a better choice.

Location: Carrer de la Ciutat, 5, 08002 Barcelona, Spain. Open Every day

And here ends our somewhat extensive Coffee guide to you ! We have also heard good things about Federal Cafe and Super Coffee and Food Store and I am sure there are many other places. Just try to avoid Starbucks and Costa, you can do better. We ashamedly did go to starbucks one morning and the coffee is actually more expensive there than at specialty cafes so save ya dolla and go on an adventure!

Great list of must-visit coffee spots in Barcelona! I totally agree—life’s too short for bad coffee. Can’t wait to check these out on my next trip and maybe enjoy a cup of PNG Coffee while exploring the city!
